Coast Guard rescues missing diver off Kaena Point
A Coast Guard helicopter located a missing diver two miles off Kaena Point Friday night.
The diver’s friend contacted the Honolulu Fire Department when they didn’t see him surface.
The Fire Department called the Coast Guard to help at about 6:30 p.m.
The Fire Department helicopter guided the Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter rescue crew to a site where the Fire Department had spotted a green laser.
The Coast Guard helicopter lowered a diver into the water at about 7:30 p.m. and brought the diver into the MH-65 Dolphin helicopter. The diver was brought to shore and taken to a decompression chamber at the Kuakini Health System, the Coast Guard said.
The diver had been in the water for about four hours. The Coast Guard said he filled his dry suit with the remaining air left in his dive tank to stay afloat.
