Los Angeles company offers top bid for Hilo resort
HILO » A Los Angeles-based travel company is offering $3.5 million for Naniloa Volcanoes Resort.
The Hawaii Tribune-Herald reports documents filed in federal bankruptcy court last week indicate Asia Travel Center Inc. submitted the top bid for the resort.
The resort includes a 383-room hotel and nine-hole golf course on Hilo’s Banyan Drive.
Hawaii Outdoor Tours Inc. bought the resort for $6.1 million in 2006.
The proposed America Asia Travel Center deal calls for the company to spend another $1.5 million to cover defaults on lease payments made to the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and state and county taxes.
Bankruptcy trustee David Farmer says he expects other offers to come in when a motion to sell the hotel is considered Nov. 6 in bankruptcy court in Honolulu.
