21 new deputies join Hawaii sheriff division
A class of 21 new deputies will be joining the ranks of the Hawaii sheriff division.
The recruits graduated Friday during a ceremony at the Hawaii Okinawa Center.
They underwent nearly 1,000 hours of training, which included physical fitness and instruction on law and procedures.
The state Department of Public Safety says 19 of the new deputies will be assigned to Oahu. One will be assigned to Maui and one will be assigned to the Big Island.
Deputies are assigned to locations statewide including airports and courts.
