Strong quake off of New Zealand poses no threat to Hawaii
A preliminary magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off New Zealand today but does not pose any tsunami threat to Hawaii.
Centered 541 miles northeast of Whangarel, New Zealand, the temblor struck at 11:24 a.m. Hawaii time at a depth of 91 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. A 6.7-magnitude quake struck the same area on Sept. 29.
No injuries were immediately reported.
