SOLD-OUT BLAISDELL ENJOYS SUPERB EARTH, WIND & FIRE SHOW
1. Concert promoter “Uncle Tom” Moffatt, third from left, talked backstage with the “main elements” of Earth, Wind & Fire — Verdine White, left, Philip Bailey and Ralph Johnson — before the band’s sold-out show Aug. 3 in the Blaisdell Arena. MAKANA HONORS CYRIL PAHINUI AS HE KICKS OFF GIG AT KAHALA
4. Slack-key master Cyril Pahinui, second from left, was in the audience July 28 when Makana, center, opened a showcase engagement in the Plumeria Beach House at the Kahala Hotel and Resort. Makana acknowledged Pahinui and his family during the first set and sang “Hi‘ilawe,” a song associated with the Pahinui family for more than 50 years, in his honor. Percussionist Lopaka Colon, left, hula dancer Kanoe Cazimero and bassist Lono Kau mehe iwa joined Makana in welcoming Pahinui during intermission.

MAKANA HONORS CYRIL PAHINUI AS HE KICKS OFF GIG AT KAHALA

Makana, second from left, talked with KSSK radio personality Kathy With A K, left, Clear Channel Radio Vice President and General Manager Chuck Cotton and his wife, Shari Cotton, and their friend Jane Sawyer after the show. Makana will begin hosting a Sunday morning Hawaiian music show on Clear Channel station Hawai‘i No Ka ‘Oi Radio 99.1 FM and its online affiliate, iHeartRadio, in September.

Crystal Akana, second from left, and Valerie Ragaza-Miao co-emceed the event. Michael Clark, left, and Nick Freitas were two of the VIP guests who arrived in time to enjoy the private pre-party gathering. Proceeds from ticket sales and raffle items were donated to local charities.
