City resumes driver license renewals at Kaneohe office
Effective Monday, Oahu residents will once again be able to renew drivers licenses at the Satellite City Hall in Windward City Shopping Center, Mayor Kirk Caldwell announced this morning.
The location had stopped offering license renewal and duplication services in October as a result of staffing shortages and low demand, Sheri Kajiwara, director of the City and County of Honolulu’s Customer Services Department, said.
Kajiwara said the City rethought its decision to discontinue renewal services at the Windward City Shopping Center when long lines formed at other satellite city hall locations due to state identification requirements becoming effective in January.
City officials said they hope that redirecting customers to the windward location will help ease wait times at nearby locations that also offer drivers license services.
Caldwell stopped by the shopping center this morning to announce the return of the service.
“We think it’s another step in addressing the long lines, and we’re going to keep tweaking it,” he said. “We’re going to see how it works, and we’re going to do additional things around the island to make sure the people of the City and County of Honolulu get the services they need and expect.”
