A vehicle fire that caused an estimated $65,000 in damage at an Ewa Beach home Monday morning appears to have been intentionally set, a fire department spokesman said.

The fire started in a new truck equipped with work boxes, damaged a sedan and damaged a garage and its contents, Capt. Terry Seelig said.

Firefighters received the alarm about 3:30 a.m. for the blaze at 91-1083 Hoowalea St. No was injured.

The truck was destroyed and its loss was estimated at $40,000. The garage sustained an estimated $20,000 in damage and contents inside suffered $4,000 in damage. The sedan, outside the garage, suffered $1,000 in damage.

The fore department turned over the case to police for a criminal investigation, Seelig said.

In an unrelated fire, Petite Garlic restaurant in Waikiki sustained a total of $4,000 in damage to the building and its contents about 1:30 a.m. Monday.

The fire was caused by an accumulation of excess grease and oil in the stove area of the second-floor kitchen, said Capt. Gary Lum, fire department spokesman.

Firefighters brought the fire under control at 1:54 a.m. No one was injured.
