A 55-year-old Puna man made his initial appearance in a Hilo District Court Monday on first-degree terroristic threatening and several firearms charges after staging a seven-hour stand-off with police last week.
Jeffrey K. Cabantan of Eden Roc was charged Thursday with first-degree terroristic threatening and four firearms offenses. His bail was set at $104,000.
Hawaii County police said Cabantan allegedly used a gun Tuesday to threaten people in a house on Ahi Avenue in Puna. The man refused to surrender to the officers, so the police department called in its Special Response Team tactical unit.
A 35-year-old relative managed to leave the house, police said. His wife, 55, was found unharmed in the house.
