A 70-year-old Canadian man apparently drowned Wednesday at Kahaluu Beach Park near Kailua-Kona.
Authorities identified him as Ian Michael Gordon of Alberta.
Kona police said a witness saw the man snorkeling at 3:40 p.m. when he stopped moving about 40 feet from shore.
A lifeguard brought him to shore and began cardiopulmonary resuscitation. He was taken to Kona Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 4:13 p.m.
An autopsy will be conducted.
