Honolulu police and Punahou School officials are investigating shots that were fired into a kindergarten building of the Manoa private school over the weekend.

No one was injured.

Three bullets were shot into the glass of a window in one of the buildings at the Omidyar K-1 Neighborhood complex sometime between 7 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, police said. A reckless endangering and criminal property damage case has been initiated, HPD said.

The shots appeared to have come from a vehicle traveling mauka on Manoa Road, Punahou spokeswoman Carlyn Tani said.

Tani said several reports the school received indicate the incident took place between 2 and 4 a.m. Sunday.

School parents and faculty were told of the incident this morning, the school said in a statement to media this afternoon.

"Currently, there is no reason to believe that the incident was anything other than a random act of vandalism," the release said. School security has "increased and repositioned" in the wake of the incident, the release said.

"We will continue to work with HPD and take their advice regarding any outcomes of the investigation," the release said. "In the meantime, this matter concerns the overall safety of the community, and we ask that anyone with information relating to the incident call HPD immediately."

The $26 million, 2.5-acre Omidyar complex first welcomed students in fall 2010.
