Five windswept paddlers rescued off Papalaua, Maui
Maui Ocean Safety personnel rescued five windswept paddlers in waters off of Papalaua Beach Park Sunday.
According to lifeguards, a 12-year-old girl and two of her father’s friends were stand-up paddling when rising winds pulled them away from shore. The girl’s father paddled out on a stand-up board to assist the paddlers and was joined by a person in a kayak. The girl was brought aboard the kayak, but the kayak then flipped.
Lifeguards responding to the 12:40 p.m. emergency call retrieved each of the paddlers with a watercraft and brought them safely to shore. No injuries were reported.
