Symposium, service mark interfaith week
In observance of the United Nations’ World Interfaith Harmony Week on Feb. 1-7, the All Believers Network in Hawaii is sponsoring a symposium Feb. 2, and the Pacific Buddhist Academy will host an interfaith service Feb. 7.
State Sen. Suzanne Chun Oakland will be the guest speaker at the symposium, titled "Moving from Exclusion to Inclusion in My Faith," from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin, 1727 Pali Highway.
Saleem Ahmed, president of All Believers Network, said, "They will explore whether all spiritually based religions are on converging paths to the same reality. For example, followers from several religions will highlight some sacred passages of exclusion in their own faith and suggest how these should be reinterpreted in today’s world and made inclusive."
A registration fee of $17, which includes lunch catered by India Cafe, is due by Jan. 31. Checks should be payable to the All Believers Network and mailed to Harendra Panalal, Hale o Kalani Towers, 1702 Kewalo St. No. PH-3, Honolulu, HI 96822. Call Ahmed at 371-9360.
At the interfaith service, also at the Honpa Hongwanji temple, prayers, chants, songs and poetry will be shared starting at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 7. Contact Liane Viloria at 532-2649.
