Missing-person case might be homicide
Hawaii County police have opened a homicide investigation in connection with the disappearance of a 44-year-old Hawaiian Acres man.
Dante Peter Gilman was reported missing on Jan. 10 and a missing-person investigation was initiated.
Detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section developed information leading to the initiation of the criminal case. They continue to search for Gilman.

Man arrested in attempted armed robbery
A Kalihi shopper foiled an alleged attempt by a 21-year-old man to rob a store near The Towers at Kuhio Park public housing Tuesday afternoon.
Police said the man entered the Kalihi store at 4:45 p.m. armed with a handgun and demanded money. The cashier refused, and a struggle ensued.
When a customer stepped in, the suspect fled and was caught near the housing project. He was arrested on suspicion of first-degree robbery.
The cashier suffered minor injuries, but refused medical treatment.
