Year-end adoptions brighten Family Court

Family Court Judge R. Mark Browning suggested a stuffed animal as a gift for Emma Directo, 3, who was officially adopted by the Directo family Friday. Instead, Emma chose a gun that fires foam rockets. Emma's mother, Martha, held her hand as her father, Mike, and cousin Cherey, 9, looked on. Friday marked a special Adoption Day when 53 pending adoption cases were finalized.

The Scofields had adopted Joy Lin from China when she was 18 months old.

Jim Scofield wiped away tears after the adoption of his and Wanda Scofield's 7-year-old daughter, Joy Lin, was finalized Friday by Judge R. Mark Browning in Family Court in Kapolei.

Robert and Connie Oh flashed shakas after the adoption case for their son, Luke, 2, was finalized by Browning in Family Court at Kapolei. The Ohs' daughter, Emily, 5, is also adopted. Both children are from Korea.
