UH’s Tachibana cleared to play against UNLV
University of Hawaii football player Alema Tachibana has been cleared to play in Saturday’s game against UNLV after his driving under the influence charges were dismissed Friday in district court.
Tachibana’s hearing, which had been previously postponed, ended Friday when charges were dropped without prejudice after the case’s key witness, the police officer, failed to show up in court.
The state may refile, although that is unlikely at this point.
Tachibana, a linebacker, had been allowed to practice but not play while his case was ongoing.
