Oprah Winfrey has her own magazine, TV network, film production company, radio program and book club. Maui organic farm produce may soon become a new endeavor by the celebrity.
Oprah’s Farm LLC, a business registered in Hawaii in March, registered several trademarks for organic products with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office last month.
Nicole Nichols, a Winfrey spokeswoman, said in an email that the trademarks were filed for Oprah’s farm on Maui to grow and distribute produce throughout Hawaii.
The trademarks cover a variety of organic foods including beverages, sauces, salad dressing, frozen vegetables, soups and snack dips. Trademarks under the name Oprah’s Organics also cover catering services and a long list of body products such as soaps, shampoos, oils, lotions, creams, sunscreen and hair spray.
Winfrey has been a landowner on Maui for at least a decade. Last year in an Associated Press interview, she said that if her cable network OWN wasn’t successful, she planned to pursue a farm venture on the Valley Isle.
"If this doesn’t work out," she was quoted as saying, "I’m going to go into organic farming in Maui. And I’m not kidding."
