A brush fire burning in Kapolei this morning is visible from the hills above the area.

Seven fire engine companies, three tankers and a helicopter fought a brush fire in Kapolei near the Honolulu Star-Advertiser printing plant about mid-day today.

The blaze was declared under control at about 12:40 p.m. by fire Battalion Chief Nathan Ramos.

The fire was reported just after 10:40 a.m. below the railroad tracks, said Capt. Terry Seelig, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman.

The brush fire was located in thick kiawe and other vegetation on private property about half a mile southwest of the printing plant. It was not close enough to endanger the plant or any or businesses in the area. The cause of the fire is unknown.
