Kauai firefighters get Hanapepe brush fire under control
Kauai firefighters contained a brush fire at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Hanapepe that broke out three hours earlier.
The blaze blackened more than 30 acres of an old sugar cane field. No homes or structures were threatened and no one was injured, the Fire Department reported.
Due to the fire’s proximity to Kaumualii Highway, both lanes of traffic were closed for about an hour. The eastbound lane reopened to contraflowed traffic just after 6 p.m. The westbound lane was then reopened at 7 p.m.
The Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire.
