EZ Grill Disposable Instant Grill

COURTESY MCCLATCHY

» What it is: As grills go, this is all-inclusive. All you need is one match and plenty of meat and/or vegetables. The foil-type pan comes with a stand and built-in grill. There are two sizes: The regular is about 12 by 10 inches; the party size, which was tested for this review, measures about 19 by 12 inches.

» How it works: Tear off the cellophane wrapping and cardboard container, secure the pan atop its wire stand, drop in one match and, in 15 minutes, you’re ready to grill. It’s big enough to grill nine steaks or as many as 15 burgers. This would be great for football tailgating, especially when traveling to an away game.

» The good: This takes much of the hassle out of grilling, especially when you’re on the move. You could keep a couple in the trunk on a long-haul car trip just to do some roadside grilling rather than drop a lot of cash at restaurants. The grill and charcoal are made from recycled materials and can be re-recycled. There is no petroleum smell from the fire.

» The bad: Watch out for that grill grate; the edges are sharp. This becomes an issue if you pull up the foil covers around the grate, which you are not supposed to do. To arrange the two charcoal packets in the grill, simply shake the pan to position the packets side by side and drop in a match. There is a starter sheet, but it seemed superfluous because the packets started the moment the match hit them. Also, the pan is thin, so beware of hard knocks.

» Cost: $19.99 for four regular grills or for two party-size, plus shipping
