Police arrest suspect in Ala Moana Center stabbing death

Honolulu police today arrested a Kapahulu man, 26, in connection with the stabbing death of a man who was found bleeding in a stairwell at Ala Moana Shopping Center on Oct. 3.

The man was arrested this afternoon on suspicion of second-degree murder and is being held at the Alapai police station pending charges.

Brent Kanae, was found unconscious in a stairwell on the makai side of the mall near California Pizza Kitchen about 3 p.m. on Oct. 3, police said.

Kanae and his family, also of Kapahulu, had just returned from a trip to Disneyland the day before the incident. An employee at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. at Ala Moana, he had arrived at the mall early to meet his friends for lunch and to give them souvenirs.

His family held a press conference last week urging any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
