Shrine to host children’s festival
Hawaii Kotohira Jinsha-Hawaii Dazaifu Tenmangu, a Shinto shrine at 1239 Olomea St., is taking reservations for the Shichi-Go-San Children’s Festival, Oct. 14 through Nov. 18.
Shinto rites of passage for children of certain ages involve the wearing of certain garments, a news release said. With the help of the Hanayagi Dancing Academy Hawaii Foundation and volunteers, the shrine is offering a traditional Shinto blessing and the opportunity to experience the rituals to more than 2,000 children, the release said. A $50 donation includes the blessing, candies, omamori (good luck amulets) and a gift.
Complimentary use of kimono will be available on request, on weekends and holidays.
