HAWAII MODEL Genevieve Rokero of the Kathy Muller agency was busy in New York during Fashion Week, Sept. 5-13. Besides working the catwalk, she was on the cover of The Wall Street Journal on Sept. 9. She is also featured in a campaign for American Eagle Outfitters in all their stores and graces the pages of the October issue of Cosmopolitan magazine.
"It was exciting to be a part of Fashion Week, but it was also very stressful for everyone involved in the fashion industry," she said. "I didn’t have a day off, the week before, the week of, or the week after."
Genevieve was born on Oahu and raised in Waimanalo and Kailua. She attended La Pietra for four years and spent her junior and senior years at Redemption Academy. After graduation, she attended Windward Community College and the University of Hawaii online for a semester while she was traveling. "I remember being in British Virgin Islands on the beach shooting and having to ask the photographer if I could finish the shoot early because I had to take a chemistry exam online within the next hour," she said. "After that I decided to focus on my career and go back to school when I could give it 100 percent." …
A GROUP of isle "names" and their pets took part in a Celebrities and Their Pets Fashion Show at the Hawaii Woman Expo, Sept. 8-9 at Blaisdell Exhibition Hall. The pets were dressed in designer outfits by Monica Shigenaga, owner/designer of Cocojor. Al Waterson emceed the event coordinated by his wife, Nancy Bernal. Those who walked the runway holding their own pet or a puppy from the Oahu SPCA were Michael Paulo, Jordan Segundo, Mary Gutzi, Vicky Cayetano and her daughter Marissa Cayetano-Ross, Olena Heu, Jai Cunningham, Mahealani Richardson, Jill Kuromoto, sisters Denby, Darah and Dana-Li Dung, Rann and Gina Watamull and daughter Caitlin, Starr Kalahiki, Haumea Hebenstreit-Ho, Aidan James, Margaret Doversola, Alana Folen, Yu Shing Ting, Andrea Dismuke, Shawna-Lynn Masuda, Jenna Tokujo, Kathryn Teruya, Lexi Hara, Dr. Richard Fujie, Christian Yrizarry and Seth Char. …
THE NATIONAL Football League has done the millions of fans, who have made it possible for the league, team owners and players to become so successful and wealthy, a great disservice by allowing unqualified, replacement officials to work the games over a labor dispute. The poor officiating has been a disgrace. Bad calls and noncalls can determine the outcome of a game and also result in serious injury to players. A blow to the head, especially to a quarterback, is a serious infraction.
On Sunday, QB Alex Smith of San Francisco slid feet-first to the turf after a run and then took a forearm to the face while on the ground from a Detroit player. There was no roughness call, despite blood flowing from Smith’s nose. In Monday night’s game between Denver and Atlanta, Denver coach John Fox rushed to the field to help break up a scrum when officials were losing control of the game. …
NICE GESTURE by UH football coach Norm Chow to honor former UH football player and head coach Larry Price as honorary team captain for last Saturday’s Lamar game. Larry is a MidWeek columnist and co-host, with Michael W. Perry, on the highly rated "Perry & Price" KSSKāmorning radio show. The Roosevelt graduate also has a doctorate in education, among his accomplishments. …
