Incident near three Nanakuli schools resolved peacefully
A barricade situation that prompted a lock down at three Nanakuli schools near Haleakala Avenue was resolved without incident Tuesday afternoon when a man surrendered.
Police said that about 1:15 p.m., officers responded to a call of a domestic argument at a home on Haleakala. Arriving officers were confronted by a man, who then grabbed a woman who managed to escape.
The suspect then barricaded himself in the home and yelled at officers at the scene, police said.
The Department of Education said Nanakuli Elementary, Nanaikapono Elementary and Nanakuli High and Intermediate schools were on lockdown from about 1:45 p.m. Haleakala Avenue was also shut down during the standoff.
Officers from the Specialized Services Division were called to the scene.
The man surrendered without incident at about 3:15 p.m. He is being held pending charges of kidnapping and abuse of a household member.
