Hawaii County firefighters keep Pahala wildfire from spreading

Hawaii County firefighters are continuing to monitor and maintain the perimeters of the Pahala fires, which began June 18, and remain at nearly 5,300 acres.

The 400-acre mauka fire above Pahala town is 95 percent contained and is under control.

The 4,900-acre makai fire is about 60 percent contained. Firefighters are continuing to maintain the perimeter along the fire breaks, extinguishing hot spots.

Eight county and four National Park Service firefighters continued to fight the blazes.
