Man dies 3 days after a truck rolls over him
A 58-year-old Kailua-Kona man died Thursday from injuries he sustained when a pickup truck he was working on ran over him June 11 off Old Mamalahoa Highway.
Police identified him as William Lawrence.
Kona patrol officers said the man was working on a 1993 Toyota Tacoma pickup when the vehicle began to roll downhill. Lawrence tried to stop the truck but was pulled under it as it gained speed. The truck then hit a rock wall and came to rest atop him, police said.
Lawrence was flown to the Queen’s Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead Thursday. Because the incident happened on a private road, the death is not included in the county’s traffic fatality count.
