The Coast Guard says all seven crew members were recovered safely today from a ship in distress about 300 miles northwest of Johnston Atoll.

The ship was reportedly listing to one side. There was a report that there may have been a fire aboard, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard said it received word about 4 a.m. today that a signal from a maritime emergency radio beacon was received from the MV Golden Eagle II, at a location about 316 miles northwest of Johnson Atoll.

The C-130 aircraft left Barbers Point at 8 a.m. and arrived at the ship’s last known location about 10:30 a.m. The ship MV Forestal Diamante had also diverted to the scene.

At 10:43 a.m., the air crew spotted a life raft and saw one person aboard. Subsequently, the Forestal Diamante recovered from the raft all seven mariners who had been aboard the Golden Eagle II, the Coast Guard said.

Ocean conditions were 1- to 3-foot seas with winds of 11 to 17 mph, the Coast Guard said.
