A 63-year-old Ewa Beach man was critically injured this afternoon in Kalaeloa when the mo-ped he was riding crashed into a concrete barrier.

Police said speed was a possible factor in the crash.

The mo-ped rider lost control of the moped, while heading south on Coral Sea Road, 76 feet south of San Jacinto Road, at about 1:49 p.m.

The mo-ped traveled onto the grassy shoulder and hit the concrete barrier, police said.

The driver was thrown from his mo-ped and hit the barrier and the shoulder.

He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center with head and other injuries, police said.
