Man charged with assault and threats to woman in moving car

A 28-year-old Makaha is charged with striking a woman and then threatening to kill her while she was driving last month.

James Standford III is scheduled to appear in Family Court this morning to face second-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of family or household member charges. His bail is set at $4,000.

Police said that Standford got into an argument with a 28-year-old woman on April 28. During the argument Standford allegedly struck the woman in the face and head while she was driving. Standord then placed a hand on her knee forcing her push down on the gas pedal and told her she was going to die, police said.

He turned himself into police at the Kapolei substation on Tuesday. Police initially arrested Standford for suspicion of attempted murder and violating a protective order.

Standford’s record include six misdemeanor convictions, including second-degree terroristic threatening and abuse of a family member.
