Honolulu police use stun gun on man with knife

Honolulu police used an electronic stun gun to subdue a man holding a knife late Saturday morning in the Keeaumoku Street area.

Police said a solo bike officer initially stopped the man for a pedestrian violation shortly before noon near the intersection of Beretania and Keeaumoku streets.

The man, in his late 20s, refused to cooperate and brandished a switch-blade type of knife, although the blade wasn’t extended, police said.

Another patrol officer deployed his stun gun to subdue the man.

Police said the man was not arrested and taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.

An Emergency Medical Services supervisor said paramedics took the man to the Queen’s Medical Center in good condition.
