Rental car theft leads to drug charges against Kona woman
A rental car theft led to numerous drug charges against a 29-year-old Kona woman.
Police said Michelle T. Regohos had not returned the 2012 Nissan Altima sedan she had rented at the Kona Airport on March 4. Police put out an all-points bulletin for both the car and the woman.
On Tuesday, a patrol officer found Regohos in the car, whose license plates were changed, in Kailua-Kona.
Police obtained a search warrant to search the car and found 31 packets and a glass smoking pipe, all with crystalline residue believed to be methamphetamine, and other drug paraphernalia.
Authorities charged Regohos with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, two counts of theft (for the license plates), two counts of promoting a dangerous drug and two counts of drug paraphernalia.
