A water main break has closed lanes on Kainui Drive near the intersection of Maluniu Avenue in Kailua this morning and the road closures are expected to continue into the evening.

Repairs on the 12-inch main are expected to take all day, a Board of Water Supply spokesman said. Initially, about 80 customers are without water. But crews restored water to about 55 customers, leaving about 25 without water. A water tanker is on scene to provide water to affected customers.

The north-bound lane of Kainui Drive is closed between Oneawa Street and Malunuiu Avenue. South-bound lanes are open.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.

The main was installed in 1955. The break was reported at 12:50 a.m.
