U.S. Attorney’s Office in Hawaii collects $3.6M in fines

The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Hawaii collected $3,587,129 in fiscal year 2011 related to criminal and civil actions, a 20 percent increase over the year before, U.S. Attorney Florence T. Nakakuni announced today.

Of that amount, $2,139,903 was collected in criminal actions and $1,447,225 was collected in civil actions. The office collected an additional $490,778 in criminal and civil forfeitures, more than tripling the previous year’s figures.

The fiscal year ends Sept. 30.

The U.S. Attorneys’ Offices are responsible for enforcing and collecting civil and criminal debts owed to the United States, and criminal debts owed to federal crime victims.
