Wahine basketball team loses WAC opener on road

The Hawaii women’s basketball team opened up its final season in the Western Athletic Conference with an 83-67 loss against San Jose State at The Event Center in San Jose, Calif., on Saturday night.

Senior forward Brittany Johnson, the WAC’s top scorer, led the Spartans with 22 points, 12 rebounds and five assists.

UH fell to 5-11 overall after dropping its sixth straight WAC opener. SJSU improved to 6-10.

Sophomore guard Sydney Haydel led UH with 17 points off the bench.
