Junior pro surf meet at Sunset
More than 100 of the world’s top under-21 surfers are expected at the North Shore Surf Shop Pro Junior meet starting Saturday at Sunset Beach.
It is the largest surf competition for juniors to be held in Hawaii in more than a decade. The ASP-sanctioned event carries a 4-star rating, the highest for any pro junior meet in North America this year. The holding period runs through Jan. 22.
Newly crowned Vans Triple Crown of Surfing champion John John Florence, 19, will not compete, instead coaching his younger brothers Ivan and Nathan in their debuts. For information, call 265-6694.
