Hilo pedestrian dies of injuries
A Hilo man died Monday of injuries sustained when a car hit him as he was crossing a street.
Theodore S. Riotutar, 60, was not in a crosswalk as he crossed Waianuenue Avenue at about 6:40 p.m. Sunday in front of Hilo Methodist Church, police said. He was hit by a 2007 Pontiac sedan driven by a 50-year-old Hilo woman.
Riotutar was under the influence of alcohol, police said. The driver is not suspected of drinking, drug use or speeding.
Riotutar was flown to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition. He died at 6:11 p.m. Monday.

It was the 22nd traffic death on Hawaii island this year, compared with 25 at this time last year.
