A man escaped injury when his bedroom caught fire early this morning on Kauai.

Police Dispatch received a call at 3:44 a.m. when a fire broke out in the upstairs bedroom of a two-story home on Kapai Road.

Firefighters were on scene by 3:54a.m., the county said in a news release, but residents had already extinguished the blaze using a garden hose.

The fire was contained to the upstairs bedroom, causing roughly $25,000 in damage to the structure and its contents.

Residents are being assisted by the Kauai Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
