Rock star and part-time Maui resident Sammy Hagar launched his Sammy’s Beach Bar Rum last week.
Distilled and bottled on Maui, the rum incorporates locally sourced sugar, produced from first-growth and first-press sugar cane, and distilled Menehune Water.
To create the spirit, Hagar enlisted the help of Mark Nigbur, creator of Pau Maui Vodka and former owner of a Colorado vodka distillery. Nigbur creates the handmade rum in pot stills he designed himself.
Priced at $24.99, the rum is available at the Liquor Collection at Ward Warehouse, Tamura’s Fine Wine & Liquors and other select stores, with national distribution set to begin in February. The rum falls into the premium spirits category.
This isn’t Hagar’s first venture into the world of spirits; he founded Cabo Wabo Tequila in 1996.
Hagar owns 13 acres of farmland near Lahaina, where he grows sugar cane and pineapple. He also owns the Sammy’s Beach Bar and Grill restaurant chain.
