Vandals use Super Glue and concrete to damage Hawaii island park
Vandals used Super Glue, human waste and concrete to damage the facilities at Kailua Park, known as Old Kona Airport Park, late Monday or early Tuesday morning.
Hawaii County Parks and Recreation Director Bob Fitzgerald said the locks on gates were filled with Super Glue (cyanoacrylate). A mixture of concrete and human waste was poured down several toilets near the beach pavilions and sprinkler heads were broken off a walking track, the county said.
Fitzgerald estimated the damage at about $3,000, and said the damage could have been worse if the concrete had been left to harden.
County officials are asking for the public to report any suspicious activity at Kailua Park or any other county facility by calling police dispatch at 935-3311. Call police Sgt. Gary Souther at 326-4646 or CrimeStoppers at 329-8181 in Kona
