Hawaii County police arrested a 39-year-old Puna man Friday morning after discovering four pipe bombs and an indoor marijuana growing operation at his Ainaloa home.
Vice officers with a search warrant also found crystal methamphetamine and bomb-making materials at the East Hawaii home.
Officers seized 253 marijuana plants ranging from 6 inches to 4 feet in height, 1.5 pounds of processed marijuana, 0.2 grams of crystal meth, "ice" pipes, digital scales and ammunition.
The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a prohibited weapon, felon in possession or ownership of a prohibited weapon, first-degree promotion of a detrimental drug, three counts of first-degree promotion of marijuana, two counts of third-degree detrimental drug promotion and five counts of drug paraphernalia.
Police also arrested a 44-year-old Puna man who was at the home at the time of the search on suspicion of first-degree promotion of marijuana, second-degree possession of detrimental drugs and drug paraphernalia.
The pipe bombs were neutralized at the Army’s Pohakuloa Training Area.
The FBI; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and the Hawaii County Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Team assisted in executing the search warrant.
