Workers from GP Builders installed a chain-link fence along the Ewa side of the Honolulu Police Department headquarters on South Beretania Street Friday in anticipation of next week’s Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
The workers said they were putting fencing up only along the building’s Ewa side.
HPD spokeswoman Caroline Sluyter said in a written statement, "Temporary barriers and fencing are part of the security measures put in place for APEC and will be removed after the event."
Other restrictions and changes will be in place during APEC week.
From Monday to Nov. 14, arrestees normally processed at police headquarters will be taken to the Kapolei police station, while juveniles will be processed at the Kalihi police station. The public can get information by calling the Kapolei receiving desk at 723-8525 or the Kalihi receiving desk at 723-8207.
There will be no walk-in service for police reports at the Records and Identification Division. The public is asked to instead call the division at 529-3271 to get information. The Law Enforcement Museum at the Beretania Street headquarters also will be closed from Monday to Nov. 14.
Firearms registration and sex offender registration will not be affected.
