Kauai man dies after suffering stroke or heart attack during hike
A 59-year-old male hiker from Lawa’i died Saturday afternoon after suffering a massive heart attack or stroke while hiking along the Nonou Mountain trail, which is also known as the Sleeping Giant, Kauai county officials said Sunday.
The man’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, officials said.
He apparently suffered a massive heart attack or stroke while hiking around 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Kauai Fire Department’s Air 1 helicopter flew to the summit, where rescue crews performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the man, officials said.
The victim was later taken to Wilcox Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
