Police arrested a 24-year-old Wahiawa man for investigation of attempted murder after an assault outside a Kalihi home Wednesday night.
Police said the suspect drove to a home on Eluwene Street in Kalihi just before 11 p.m. and met with a group of friends.
The suspect confronted a 23-year-old man and accused him of stealing from him, police said.
Witness Dennis Erbano told Hawaii News Now that the suspect pulled out a machete and sliced the victim on the ear, face and collarbone.
Police arrested the suspect in the Salt Lake area late Wednesday night.
He is facing one count of attempted murder and a contempt-of-court charge. His criminal record includes a petty misdemeanor conviction for drunken driving in 2003.
The victim is at the Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
