Motorcycle safety education programs will soon be available on Maui and Hawaii island.
Leeward Community College will expand its motorcycle safety education program to Maui College and Hawaii Community College by the end of the year thanks to a $107,000 grant from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
The program recently opened at Kauai Community College, according to Bill Labby, interim motorcycle safety program coordinator at Leeward. The grant covers training and personnel, travel, motorcycle maintenance and equipment.
To provide continuing education for motorcyclists, LCC just received a federal grant for an advanced training course at the Waiawa campus. Currently, about 2,500 people a year register for the motorcycle safety education program at LCC.
Instructors will teach motorcyclists how to refine their skills. The advanced training course is expected to be available in the next six months.
