A 26-year-old Coast Guardsman who allegedly robbed and severely beat a taxicab driver in front of the Nimitz Gate at Pearl Harbor nearly two years ago appeared in Honolulu District Court this week.

David G. Eisenhour was extradited to Hawaii this week and then charged with first-degree assault and first-degree robbery, the city Prosecutor’s Office said.

On Nov. 29, 2009, Eisenhour caught a cab on Keeaumoku Street and was taken to the Nimitz Gate where he was told he owed $33, the Prosecutor’s Office said. Eisenhour then allegedly gave the cab driver $20 and walked away. When the cabbie followed him, he allegedly punched him in the face before being apprehended by Pearl Harbor military police, the Prosecutor’s Office said.

The Coast Guard later sanctioned Eisenhour administratively but returned the criminal case to police, the Prosecutor’s Office said. Meanwhile, Eisenhour was transferred by the Coast Guard to a base in Oklahoma.

Eisenhour’s bail was was reduced to $20,000, and he was allowed to leave the jurisdiction, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
