The Army says a wildfire at the Army’s Pohakuloa Training Area on the island of Hawaii is 100 percent contained.

"We are just mopping up now," sand Mike Egami, Army spokesman, "and monitoring smouldering areas."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. There have been no injuries or damages to structures, the Army said.

The wildfire, which began at about 11 a.m. Tuesday near the 45-mile marker on Saddle Road, scorched about 1,153 acres before being contained Wednesday night, said Egami.

Big Island officials reopened Saddle Road on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. The road was shut down for safety due to the heavy smoke between mile marker 8 and Mamalahoa Road shortly after the fire started.

Forty-four firefighters from the Pohakuloa Training Area, Hawaii County and the state Division of Forestry and Wildlife battled the blaze.
