Forgiveness ceremonies emphasize need to release pain of the past
The Center for Spiritual Living Windward Oahu, or CSL, will hold services the entire month of September based on the theme of forgiveness in light of the upcoming 10th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
The Rev. Patri Hildreth of the CSL said, "Forgiveness is really about ourselves because we can’t afford the effects of resentment.I’ve been using this saying for years: Resentment is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Am I going to judge and be righteous and get stuck in yesterday, or am I going to surrender to love and be free?"
On Sunday, a beach service will be held at 9:30 a.m. in lieu of regular services at Kalama Beach Park, 248 N. Kalaheo Ave. in Kailua.
On Sept. 11 at 9:30 a.m., a special joint service will be held with sister Windward Unity Church, which will include a burning bowl ceremony to release the past. Hildreth and Unity leader Geo Downer will speak at the regular meeting site of both churches, at the Kaneohe Atrium Building, 46-005 Kawa St., No. 303.
On Sept. 18 at 11 a.m., the Rev. Sue Crane and Dan Del Negro will speak; and Hildreth will speak on Sept. 25. For CSL information, call 371-2455; or a 24-hour line: 236-0950.
Unity will also hold prayer services celebrating Unity’s World Day of Prayer on Thursday at 9 a.m. at the Kaneohe Atrium. Call 262-6731.
