Man threatened to jump off Rockefeller Center deck
NEW YORK (AP) — Police in New York City say a tourist is undergoing psychiatric evaluation after threatening to jump from a 70-story observation deck at Rockefeller Center.
Police say Jorge Ruiz of Las Vegas climbed over a 5-foot-high glass partition of the Top of the Rock Observation Deck at around 3:45 p.m. Wednesday. They say he sat on a concrete pillar with his legs dangling over the side of the building known as "30 Rock" and threatened to jump.
The NYPD’s Emergency Service Unit responded and was able to convince him to surrender after about 20 minutes.
Ruiz was taken to Bellevue Hospital for evaluation.
Police say Ruiz told them he was upset over a book he wrote that wasn’t going to be published.
