Police hunt 2 men in Kailua-Kona robbery

Hawaii County police want help in identifying two men, one armed with a rock, who robbed two Kailua-Kona residents Sunday night.

Police said a 20-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were walking on the mauka side of Kuakini Highway north of the Kamaaina Hale apartments just before 10 p.m. when two males came out of some bushes. One held a rock, and the other demanded money of the man.

When the man said he didn’t have any money, the second suspect punched him in the face, cutting his lip, police said.

The woman gave cash to the suspects, who fled on foot down a dirt road between the highway and Alii Drive, police said.

One suspect, with short hair and a deep voice, wore blue jeans and a dark shirt with a faded design on the midsection. The other, with long hair, wore blue jeans, and a jersey shirt under an unbuttoned plaid dark gray-and-white dress shirt.
