California man dies after apparently falling off bike in Kona
A 24-year-old California man died after apparently falling off a bicycle while intoxicated in Kona.
Anthony Hernandez, 24, of Simi Valley, Calif., died of severe cranial cerebral injuries, the Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office said. The cause of the injuries and whether the death was accidental was deferred, pending further investigation, the office said.
Hawaii County police said Hernandez fell off his bicycle on Alii Drive on Friday and went to the hospital with extensive head and face injuries.
He was airlifted to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition and died about 9 a.m. Sunday.
Hawaii police said Hernandez was intoxicated and opened a case for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.
Toxicology results were not available.
