Alleged thief tracked through GPS on stolen cellphone
A 19-year-old Waimanalo man was arrested Tuesday after officers found him through the GPS device on a smart phone that he allegedly stole.
Police were dispatched to a report of a car break-in about 10 a.m. at Waimanalo Bay Beach Park, according to the police department’s Facebook page.
The officers tracked the stolen iPhone’s location to Kailua and made a traffic stop on Kawailoa Road because the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt, the website said.
During the investigation, officers found stolen items in the car and arrested the man for investigation of second-degree theft.
